The Behringer Line2USB Cable is handy. It’s got 2 Unbalanced 1/4″ Cables, which carry 2 Channel (or L/R Mono) Audio via a Male USB 2.0 adapter. You can choose from either 44.1 or 48 kHz.
My immediate curiosity was to try out the Line2USB with the Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter.
So I plugged out from the Novation Circuit into the CCK’s (Camera Connection Kit) USB port, with the CCK also plugged out to a 2.4a Power Supply. Good news, works great. Basically if you’ve got the Line2USB and the Apple Camera Connection Kit, you can get the Audio into your iOS device for processing and recording.
Of course, another obvious application is plugging the Line2USB into your Mac or PC. Sometimes this is handy if your interface has some unused Outputs. You can create an extra Monitor Channel in this way.
With a multi-port USB Audio Interface or Hub, hosted by the Camera Connection Kit, the Line2USB can be plugged into one of the USB ports, providing a secondary Input for your iOS Device. Note, with the Novation AudioHub 2×4 – the Line2USB can be plugged into the 2×4’s USB Hub, and is then selectable as a Hardware Audio Input on the iOS device, while the 2×4 will remain selectable as a Hardware Output for the iOS device.
There are quite a few scenarios where the Line2USB can come in handy. When I take the Novation Circuit out, I can plug it directly into the iPad, then monitor, apply FX, and record. Bring in a Hub, and you get MIDI control as well. That’s quite a bit of connectivity in a small footprint.
Currently the Behringer Line2USB is available at SweetWater for $19.99:
